How much should I pay for a PR2 domain?

  2. Hi Kev, you can get PR2 domains for as little as $5 from Godaddy Closeouts. Depending upon their backlink profile, you may feel that they are worth more. I have paid almost $40 for a PR2 domain before.

Do you know what day Automatic Authority will be on Dave’s site for sale?

    Hey Lando,

I’ve enjoyed following your comments on Dave’s site(s). I’ve been buying domains for about a year now, but probably not the right way. Can you tell my why dropped domains are not desirable if they have PR? Some of the first domains I ever bought were “dropped” but had PR and due to good backlinks, they still maintain that PR. I’m just wondering if I’m missing something?

  5. Hi curious,

Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully it will be later today :)

  6. Hi Don,

From what I’ve seen, it really comes down to when the domain was last dropped. If you get a 10 year old domain that was dropped 7 years ago but has been registered continuously since, then it’s still an aged domain. But I’d be less keen to bid on a 10 year old domain that was dropped last year.

I’ve not done too much testing on this myself. It could become quite expensive. The only dropped domain I bought actually went up in PR. But that’s coz I backlinked it myself.

Say we had a PR4 domain that was originally registered 10 years ago, was dropped once 5 years ago and has been constantly registered since then, if it was going cheap, for me, that would be good value for money. But if I’m going to pay over $150 for a PR4 domain, I want everything (age, backlink profile, previous dropped status) to be perfect.

As we have both seen first hand, it’s not the case that dropped domains will definitely lose PR. I’d say it’s really just a question of risk/reward.

Dropped domains going cheap? Maybe good value.

Dropped domains for the same price as non-dropped domains (everything else being equal)? Why take the risk?

Excited to see this live on Dave’s site. A question: If I am looking to purchase expired .co.uk or .com.au domains will the sites/process that you teach still be relevant?

  8. Hi Mary,

The process that I outline regarding, checking the quality of the domains would still be exactly the same. However, using Dropday (the expiring domain listing service I talk about in the videos), I am unable to find details of expiring .co.uk or .com.au domains. I’ll see if I can find out what options are available.

    Thanks Lando
